Boyanov & Co. is delighted to announce that the first edition of the South East Europe Energy Guide 2012 is now available for download under the Insight section on the website as well as under the Publications section on the SEE Legal website – http://www.seelegal.org/.

The Bulgarian chapter on SEE Energy Guide 2012, 1^st edition, published by SEE Legal in January 2012 and contributed by Alexander Chatalbashev (Partner) and Angel Angelov (Associate), highlights all the important aspects in the Bulgarian energy sector, such as market structures, licensing, price regulations, access to the grid, etc. The book serves its main purpose to raise readers’ attention as to the complexity of energy legislation and assist them in identifying the issues that might influence investment and business development decisions.

Competition Authority Rejects Complaint against Worldwide Formwork Producer

Boyanov & Co. represented Doka, a worldwide producer and supplier of advanced construction formwork, based in Austria, in a proceeding before the Commission for the Protection of Competition, brought by a major international competitor, on allegations of unfair competitive practices and on know-how related grounds.

By a decision of December 8, 2011 the competition authority rejected all allegations, sharing Doka’s position that its behaviour was fully in line with fair competition and in compliance with the law.

Boyanov & Co. Advises SocGen on a EUR 48m Financing of a New Solar Power Plant of US AES in Bulgaria

The US company AES Solar (through its Bulgarian arm AES Solar Bulgaria) has started construction of a 20.6MW photovoltaic park near the Danube city of Silistra in Bulgaria. The park will be funded with EUR 48 million from Societe Generale Expressbank, the bank announced on Wednesday.

“We managed to create a suitable model for providing project financing in various sectors of the economy”, commented Maria Ruseva, CEO of Societe Generale Expressbank. “This allows us to be useful in the context of the EU strategy for the production of energy from renewable sources.”

Boyanov & Co. advised Societe Generale Expressbank on the financing of the solar park. Last year Boyanov & Co. advised Societe Generale Expressbank on the financing of another solar park by AES Bulgaria in Bulgaria.

Boyanov & Co. Successfully Defends Illegal Bundling Case Brought on Unfair Competition Grounds

Boyanov & Co. successfully defended Blizoo Media and Broadband, a major local Pay-TV, internet and telephony operator, against a complaint brought before the Bulgarian competition authority by a competitor in connection with alleged illegal bundling and pricing below cost of Pay-TV, internet and telephony services.

By a decision of October 25, 2011 the competition authority unequivocally rejected all the allegations.
